Like nowadays, in the past people were dreaming of a quick and safe solution to become rich. Most of the 19'th century, such dreamers searched for gold in the hope for a better life. When a piece of the precious metal was found in one place, a madness would begin, and mine workers, or just simple people would rush to that place to dig out all the richness they could get. This becoming rich hysteria is usually associated lands like California or other USA states, but things did not stop there. For example Australia was part of it too.

This phenomenon begun in California, but many were disappointed by the fact that they didn't manage to become as rich as they wished and decided to move to other lands. This is a factor that contributed very much to the identity of Australia as a nation.
One of the best known story that tells how it all begun introduces a man named Hargraves. He and his family moved from the overexploited land of California, where luck failed to make him rich. He dag for gold there too, but he ended up in loosing almost all his money. That is why he decided to come to Australia, to a town near Bathurst. While looking for gold in a waterhole, called Lewes Pond Creek, he found traces of the auriferous mineral. Some say that he wasn't even the first to find gold in Australia, but stories like his drew the attention of others. Soon the colony of Victoria became a heaven for such 'diggers'.
The Victorian gold rush led to a boom in the Australian economy, lots of investors going there. Railways were developed, telegraph lines were constructed, and everything was almost perfect until the mineral attracted to many immigrants. Authorities had to do something, and they decided to force the miners to purchase a license to dig. Not only the economy of Victoria flourished, but also the economy of the other Australian British colonies. Later on they found gold in other regions too, but people realized soon that working in a mine was not that easy and most of the times it was very dangerous.
Being rich is something many people want, but in the past this was possible only if you were lucky enough to find something valuable while digging. Now you don't have to dig. Specialists in the field can help you buy gold bullion, and make a sure investment.
